N95 Mask

Nanotechnology is at the cutting-edge of protection against airborne transmission

, by AussiePharmaDirect, 5 min reading time

With more contagious mutant variants of Covid-19 on the rise, reducing infection rates with the use of high-quality respirator masks, getting vaccinated and maintaining constant vigilance is our best defence.

P2 (N95) masks and respirators are arguably the most important Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the fight against Covid-19. And PPE incorporating nano-technology is at the cutting-edge of protection against airborne transmissions.

When it comes to face masks, there is a distinct difference between the everyday ‘garden variety’ of surgical and cloth masks, and a fitted P2 or N95 respirator. The intended purpose of a surgical mask is different to that of a respirator and when fighting a disease like Covid-19.

A respirator offers far better protection than a looser fitted surgical mask or cloth mask which do not have filters that provide a reliable level of protection from inhaling smaller airborne particles. Therefore, they are not considered adequate respiratory protection.

Nanotechnology in P2 (N95 masks) – the future of PPE

When it comes to these respirators, there are typically 2 types of filters:

  1. Meltblown filter

  2. Nanofiber filter

Nanotechnology is one of the most exciting and fast moving areas of science today and respirators, such as AMD P2 Nano-Tech Respirators are at the leading edge of this innovation by incorporating nanofibre filters to create stronger, lighter, more comfortable and breathable protection with significantly higher filtration than regular masks or respirators that have a a melt blown filter.

The AMD P2 Nano-Tech Particulate Respirators are like personal air purifiers made from four layers of extremely fine polypropylene nanofibers that filter out 99.66% of airborne particles.

So, what’s the difference between the various respirator standards?

You may have heard of P2, KN95, FFP2 and N95 masks and wondered what the difference was.

The simplest explanation is that they all meet equivalent filtration standards, but countries label them differently, according to their jurisdiction and some have the earloops while others have the elastic placed over the head. Here’s a ready reckoner:

Name
Country / Jurisdiction
Minimum filtration
P2
Australia & NZ
94%
N95 mask
USA
95%
KN95
China
95%
FFP2
European Union (EU)
94%

The Australian Made and certified AMD P2 Nano-tech 4 layer particulate respirators surpass all of these minimum requirements. BSI testing shows a minimum filtration of 99.66%.

It’s important to note that while masks may have these certifications, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have been manufactured in these countries. Unfortunately, fake masks do exist, so it’s worth checking the certification details on the packaging.

Aussie Pharma Direct is proud to have played its part by teaming up with manufacturer, Advanced Medical Devices (AMD) to help in the fight against coronavirus with the creation and distribution of the first Australian manufactured P2 respirators.

So, there you have it! Breathe a sigh of relief and click here to order your AMD P2 respirators to provide the best possible protection for you and your loved ones.

Interesting fact: Did you know that surgical masks only offer limited one-way protection? That means you are giving some protection to others from your breath, but you are not protected from theirs. And visa versa with a cloth mask. That’s a really important reason why you need to step up to a P2 Respirator, which provides two-way protection.
