Directions for use

How To Use for Various Applications

For douching (when medically advised):

Two teaspoonfuls of Dettol diluted in two pints of warm water.

For use as antiseptic (first aid):

Prepare a 1:20 dilution using 20 mL (approximately 1 capful) of Dettol Liquid in 400 mL of water.
Liberally cleanse the affected area with diluted Dettol Liquid until the area is wiped clean.
Discard any unused mixture.

For use as surface disinfectant:

For household grade disinfection, prepare a 1:20 dilution using 20 mL of Dettol Liquid in 400 mL of water.
Wipe down surfaces such as nurseries, change tablets, cots, and other hard surfaces around the home, such as toilets, floors and bench tops. No need to rinse.
Discard diluted solutions after use.

For bathing:

30 mL of Dettol Liquid may be used safely in the bath.

Important Note: Not to be used when bathing babies under 9 months old, except on medical advice.

For laundry wash:

Add 30 mL of Dettol Liquid to the rinse cycle.

Safety Instructions

For external use only. Do not use undiluted liquid. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed seek medical advice. Do not mix with detergents or other chemicals. Do not use on high gloss acrylic surfaces.

No, Dettol Antiseptic Liquid is not suitable for direct use on pets. It contains Chloroxylenol (4.8% w/v), which can be toxic to animals, particularly cats, if absorbed through the skin or ingested during grooming.

If you need to disinfect animal bedding, you may use a highly diluted solution on washable items, but it must be thoroughly rinsed and completely dried before your pet uses it again. For any direct use on pets or their skin, always consult a veterinarian and use products specifically formulated for animals.

Does Dettol stain clothing or fabric?

Dettol Antiseptic Liquid may stain certain fabrics—especially if used undiluted or on light-coloured materials. Its formulation can sometimes leave yellow or brown marks on fabric if not diluted properly or rinsed out thoroughly.

To avoid staining:

Always dilute Dettol as recommended before using it on clothing or linens.
