TouchBio Ferritin / Iron Rapid Test

Description

Check your iron levels conveniently at home

Low iron levels can lead to fatigue, weakness, and other health issues, making regular monitoring essential. The Ferritin Rapid Test Cassette is a self-administered fingertip blood test that uses a rapid chromatographic immunoassay to detect ferritin levels in whole blood. The test provides a qualitative result (positive or negative) at a cut-off concentration of 30ng/ml, indicating if your iron stores are likely sufficient.

Designed as an in vitro diagnostic medical device for self-testing, it delivers accurate results in just 5 minutes.

      PREPARATION:

      1. Wash or clean your hands and make sure they are dry before starting the test.
      2. Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it.
      3. Open the foil pouch and take out the cassette.

      SAMPLE COLLECTION:

      1. Carefully pull off and dispose the released cap of the lancet.
      2. Use the provided alcohol pad to clean the fingertip of the middle or ring finger as puncture site.
      3. Press the lancet, on the side from where the cap was extracted; against the fingertip (it is advisable to puncture the ring finger side). The tip retracts automatically and safely after use.
      4. Keeping the hand down massage the end that was pricked to obtain a blood drop.
      5. Without squeezing the capillary dropper bulb, put it in contact with the blood.
      6. The blood migrates into the capillary dropper through the capillarity to the line indicated on the capillary dropper.
      7. You may massage again your finger to obtain more blood if the line is not reached. If possible, avoid any air bubbles.
      8. Put the blood collected into the sample well of the cassette, by squeezing the dropper bulb.
      9. Wait for the blood to be totally dispensed in the well. Unscrew the cap of the buffer bottle and add 1 drop of buffer into the sample well of the cassette.
      10. Wait for the coloured line(s) to appear. Read results at 5 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.
      11. Once your test is complete, please safely dispose of the materials in accordance with local health waste disposal requirements.

      INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS:

      Normal result:

Two lines appear. Both T (Test) and C (Control) line appear. This result means that the Ferritin concentration in blood is normal and there is no potential iron deficiency.

      Abnormal result:

One line appears. Only control line appears (C). This result means that the Ferritin concentration in blood is too low. You should consult physician because it may be an iron deficiency.

      Invalid result:

Control line fails to appear. Insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons for control line failure. Review the procedure and repeat the test with a new test. If the problem persists, discontinue using the test kit immediately.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a ferritin test?

A ferritin test measures the level of ferritin in your blood. Ferritin is a protein that stores iron and releases it when your body needs it. By assessing ferritin levels, this test helps determine how much iron your body has stored. It's often used to diagnose or monitor iron deficiency anaemia, iron overload disorders (such as hemochromatosis), and other conditions related to abnormal iron levels.

Can you have normal ferritin but low iron?

Yes, it is possible to have normal ferritin levels but still have low iron levels. Ferritin is a measure of the stored iron in your body, whereas iron tests measure the amount of iron circulating in your blood. In certain conditions, such as chronic inflammation or infection, ferritin levels can be normal or even elevated despite having low circulating iron. This is because ferritin is also an acute-phase reactant, meaning its levels can increase in response to inflammation or illness, masking an underlying iron deficiency. Therefore, a comprehensive iron panel, including serum iron, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), and transferrin saturation, is often needed for an accurate assessment of iron status.

When should the test be used?

The Iron Rapid Test Cassette can be performed in case of symptoms like paleness, feeling tired, headaches, faster heartbeat or shortness of breath during exercise; mainly, if woman, when pregnant or in case of excessive bleeding during periods. The test can be performed anytime of the

day, but must not be performed in case of disease, acute inflammations or in case of spleen or liver injury. Abnormal results can be obtained even in case of no iron deficiency situation.
