How to Use the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer for Mould Treatment

How to Use the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer for Mould Treatment

, by Tatianna Gerard , 12 min reading time

When treating mould, choosing the right solution is important—but how you apply that solution can matter too. A standard trigger spray may be perfectly suitable for smaller, easy-to-reach surfaces, but treating larger spaces or awkward and difficult-to-reach areas can call for a more practical way to distribute the solution.

That's where the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer comes in. Designed to disperse compatible liquid solutions as a fine mist, the atomizer can make it easier to achieve more even coverage and apply treatment across larger or harder-to-reach areas.

When paired with the appropriate SAN-AIR solution, it can be a useful application tool as part of your mould-management routine. However, not every SAN-AIR solution is necessarily suitable for atomisation, and concentrated products may need to be diluted according to their intended use.

In this guide, we'll look at how the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer works, when it may be useful compared with conventional spraying, which SAN-AIR solutions can be used with it, and what you should know before getting started.

What is a nano-atomizer?

A nano-atomizer is a compact device that transforms a compatible liquid solution into an ultra-fine mist. Instead of producing the larger droplets you would typically get from a trigger spray bottle, it disperses a fine mist that can provide broader and more even coverage across surfaces and spaces.

Because of this, a portable nano-atomizer can also be used as a work fogger for compatible solutions. Its continuous fine-mist application can be particularly useful when treating larger areas, multiple surfaces or awkward and hard-to-reach spaces where repeatedly using a trigger spray may be less practical.

atomizer

The SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer is designed to make this type of application simple and convenient. It's lightweight, compact, rechargeable and easy to operate, with simple controls that make it practical to carry from one treatment area to another. Instead of repeatedly using a trigger spray, the atomizer produces a continuous fine mist that can help evenly coat surfaces and reach areas that may otherwise be awkward to spray directly.

Despite its compact size, it can also cover a considerable treatment area. One full 250mL tank can cover approximately 25–40 square metres, depending on how densely the mist is applied and the type of surface being treated. For general sanitising or fogging applications, that's typically enough solution to cover around one to two standard-sized rooms.

When used for mould management, the atomizer itself isn't the treatment. Rather, it acts as an application tool for compatible SAN-AIR liquid solutions, helping you distribute the chosen solution efficiently across the intended area.

Why use an atomizer with SAN-AIR solutions?

The SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer isn't limited to one type of application. When paired with a compatible SAN-AIR liquid solution, it can be used for different treatment needs—from applying diluted mould solutions to sanitising and disinfecting suitable spaces and surfaces.

Tackle larger or hard-to-reach mould-affected areas

For smaller, easily accessible areas, the SAN-AIR Surface Mould Remover 500mL spray bottle provides a convenient way to apply the solution directly where it's needed. But when mould affects a larger area or surfaces that are awkward to reach with a trigger spray, the Portable Nano-Atomizer can offer a more practical application method.

The ready-to-use SAN-AIR Surface Mould Remover solution can simply be poured from the bottle into the atomizer's reservoir, without needing to prepare a separate dilution. Once filled, the atomizer disperses the solution as a fine mist, making it easier to work across a broader treatment area and reach spaces that may be difficult to cover using the original spray bottle alone.

This can be particularly useful when you're dealing with more extensive mould-affected areas, rather than a small isolated patch that can be treated directly with a few sprays.

Make better use of concentrated solutions

Some SAN-AIR products, such as SAN-AIR LD Concentrate, are designed to be diluted according to the intended application.

SAN-AIR LD Concentrate 1L surface sanitiser and natural mould remover

For use with the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer, prepare the solution by mixing 20mL of LD Concentrate per 1 litre of purified water.

Once mixed, carefully pour the prepared solution into the atomizer's reservoir, taking care not to overfill the tank. The solution can then be fogged onto suitable surfaces as directed.

Use it for disinfecting & sanitising, too

The Portable Nano-Atomizer isn't only useful for mould treatment. It can also be paired with compatible disinfecting solutions such as SAN-AIR™ V3R Commercial/Household Grade Disinfectant for suitable sanitising and disinfecting applications.

This gives the atomizer greater versatility as an application tool—you can use it as part of your mould-management routine, and for broader cleaning, sanitising and disinfection needs around your space.

Nano-atomizer vs trigger spray: Which should you use?

Both a trigger spray and the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer can have a place in your mould management routine. The better option depends largely on the size of the affected area, how accessible it is and the SAN-AIR solution you're using

So, which one should you choose?

You don't necessarily need to choose one over the other. For a small patch of mould on an accessible surface, the ready-to-use SAN-AIR Surface Mould Remover in its trigger spray bottle may be the simplest option.

As the treatment area becomes larger or more difficult to reach, the Portable Nano-Atomizer can provide a more practical alternative for applying a compatible SAN-AIR solution.

Ultimately, it's about matching the application method to the job—and always following the directions for the particular SAN-AIR solution you're using.

Which SAN-AIR solutions can be used with the nano-atomizer?

Not every SAN-AIR liquid solution is intended for use with the Portable Nano-Atomizer. Before filling the reservoir, check that the product is suitable for fine-mist application and whether it needs to be diluted first.

How to use SAN-AIR with the portable nano-atomizer

Step 1: Fully charge the nano-atomizer

Before getting started, make sure the Portable Nano-Atomizer is fully charged so you have enough power to complete the treatment without interruption.

Step 2: Check your SAN-AIR solution is suitable

Make sure the SAN-AIR solution is suitable for use with the Nano-Atomizer. Refer to the compatibility table above if you're unsure.

Step 3: Prepare the solution as directed

Prepare your chosen SAN-AIR solution according to its individual instructions for use. Some products are ready to use, while concentrates need to be diluted at the specified ratio before being added to the atomizer.

Don't assume that the same dilution applies to different SAN-AIR products.

Step 4: Fill the reservoir

Carefully pour the prepared solution into the atomizer's 250mL reservoir, taking care not to overfill it. Secure the reservoir correctly before switching the device on.

Step 5: Apply the solution

Switch on the Nano-Atomizer and apply the fine mist to the intended treatment area. Move the atomizer steadily as you work to help distribute the solution across the area.

Always follow the application, contact time, drying and other directions specified for the SAN-AIR solution you're using.

Step 6: Clean the atomizer after use

Cleaning the Nano-Atomizer after each use is important, particularly because SAN-AIR and similar solutions may leave essential oil residue behind.

After use, flush the atomizer with warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid to help remove remaining solution and essential oils before they can build up. Pay particular attention to keeping the nozzle clean, as residue around this area can interfere with mist production.

Troubleshooting: Atomizer producing air but no mist?

If your Nano-Atomizer switches on and produces air but no visible mist, the nozzle or internal pathway may have become blocked by sticky essential oil residue. This is more likely to occur when solution has been left in the device or the atomizer hasn't been used for some time.

To help clear the blockage, run warm water with a small amount of washing-up liquid through the atomizer. You may need to repeat the flushing process a few times until the residue clears and the device begins producing mist normally again.

To help prevent the problem from returning, make flushing and cleaning the atomizer part of your routine after every use.

What happens after treatment?

Applying the appropriate SAN-AIR solution is an important part of treating mould, but ongoing mould management shouldn't necessarily stop once the initial treatment is complete.

After treatment, make sure the area is allowed to dry and follow any additional instructions provided for the SAN-AIR solution you've used. It's also important to address conditions that may be contributing to recurring mould, such as excess moisture, condensation, leaks or poor ventilation.

For ongoing support, SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels can be used after the initial treatment to help inhibit mould and microbial growth within the surrounding environment. Options such as SAN-AIR Mould Gone Gel and V3R Air Purifier Gel can also be paired with compatible Fan Diffusers to help improve the dispersion of the gel's active ingredients throughout the intended space.

For air-conditioning and HVAC systems, SAN-AIR also offers specialised Diffuser Gels designed for these applications, which can form part of an ongoing HVAC mould and microbial management routine.
