rapid antigen testing before your holiday

At home Rapid Antigen Testing before setting off on holidays

, by AussiePharmaDirect, 3 min reading time

You’ve worked hard all year and can’t wait to take a break. With school holidays just around the corner, the last thing you want is for someone in the family to get Covid, forcing you to have to cancel your much anticipated time away.

If someone gets one of the tell-tale symptoms including fever, a sore or scratchy throat, a cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, or loss of smell or taste, then you definitely want to check if it is Covid or something else.

Now we all have access to at home Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT), it’s easy to quickly find out if you are infected or not. Keeping a supply of RATs on hand is a good idea so you can test at the first sign of symptoms and rearrange your plans if you test positive.

A person is infectious in the 48 hours before symptoms appear or 48 hours before they test positive (if they do not have symptoms), so even if everyone seems well before you set off on holiday, the best laid plans can easily be disrupted.

And the bad news is even if you are not the one who tested positive, all household members have to stay at home for at least five days and cannot leave home to go to work, school, public or retail spaces including parks, shops, cafes or restaurants which means no holiday for anyone!

Travel insurance is your friend

If you are planning a trip, you would be well advised to get travel insurance, and if you are planning on travelling overseas, make sure you are aware of the health requirements of airlines, transit and destination countries, and the arrangements for re-entering Australia.

Travel Safe Pack: an all-in-one essential travel kit

Aussie Pharma Direct has created a Travel Safe Pack which includes everything you need to keep the family safe and well. Each handy pack contains:

If flying, it’s not a bad idea to wipe down your arm rests and retractable table, plus any other surfaces you may touch and then use the ViroCLEAR hand sanitiser to kill any bacteria or germs you have come into contact with.

Some travel safe tips

Keep your mask on at all times in the airport, transit lounge, and onboard the plane, plus in any Uber or taxis you take. If you are going on a long flight or coach trip, you might like to wear a Face Mask Extender / Ear Saver that attaches to your face mask to ensure a close, comfortable fit and moves the ear loops away from your ears so they don’t rub and irritate them after long hours of wear.

One of life’s great pleasures is creating special holiday memories with your family, so with some preparation and vigilance, it’s still possible to travel and stay safe and healthy.
