When it comes to mould treatment, removing what's already there is only part of the picture. Keeping mould from returning often requires ongoing management, particularly in spaces where moisture, humidity and poor airflow can create favourable conditions for regrowth.
This is where SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels can play a useful role. These reactive gels are designed to gradually release their active ingredients into the surrounding environment, helping to inhibit mould and microbial growth over time.
While SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels can work passively on their own, they can also be paired with a SAN-AIR Fan Diffuser. The fan helps disperse the gel's active ingredients more effectively throughout the intended space, providing an easy way to incorporate ongoing mould management into your home or workplace.
In this guide, we'll explain how SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels work, what the fan diffuser does, how to use the fan diffusers we stock at Aussie Pharma Direct, which gels can be used with it, and how to get the most from the combination.
Unlike a liquid mould treatment that's applied directly to a surface, SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels are designed to work gradually within the surrounding environment. The gel slowly releases SAN-AIR's proprietary essential oils into the air, where they disperse throughout the intended space to help inhibit the growth of mould and other microorganisms.
The gels are made from SAN-AIR™ proprietary essential oils, purified water and natural binding agents. This provides an environmentally friendly, non-toxic and non-corrosive formulation that is also designed to be pet and plant-friendly, making the gels suitable for ongoing use in a range of indoor environments when used as directed.
SAN-AIR Diffuser Gel technology has broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy, with testing using a range of bacterial and fungal species, including:
Micrococcus luteus
Staphylococcus capitis
Staphylococcus hominis
Escherichia coli
Staphylococcus aureus
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Aspergillus niger (mould)
Listeria monocytogenes
Rather than being used to remove an existing patch of visible mould, the Diffuser Gels are best thought of as an ongoing management solution. After the initial mould treatment has been completed, the gel can remain in the space and continuously release its active ingredients to help inhibit microbial growth over time.
SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels are designed to work passively, so you don't necessarily need a Fan Diffuser to use them. Once opened and positioned in the intended space, the gel gradually releases its active ingredients into the surrounding air, helping to inhibit mould and microbial growth over time.
For smaller rooms or spaces where passive diffusion provides sufficient coverage, using the gel on its own may be all that's required. Simply position it according to the product instructions and allow it to work continuously in the background.
A fan diffuser is an optional addition for compatible gels, such as Mould Gone Gel and V3R Air Purifier Gel. Rather than changing what's in the gel or making the formulation itself stronger, the fan helps circulate and disperse the released active ingredients more effectively throughout the surrounding space.
This can make a fan diffuser particularly useful where you want greater distribution than passive diffusion alone can provide.
If you want to improve the dispersion of your SAN-AIR Reactive Gel, Aussie Pharma Direct stocks two fan diffuser options. Both can be used to help circulate the gel's released active ingredients throughout the surrounding space, but they differ in their design, controls and power options.

The Sleek Air Diffuser is a compact option designed specifically for use with SAN-AIR Reactive Gel jars. It can be used freestanding or wall-mounted, making it suitable for rooms and enclosed spaces where there may not be enough natural airflow to disperse the gel as effectively.
It offers three interval settings, along with 24-hour, day and night operating options, so you can adjust its operation to suit your space and routine.
How to use it:
Open the front of the diffuser and insert 2 × AA batteries.
Remove the lid and carefully peel the seal from your SAN-AIR Reactive Gel jar, then replace the lid securely.
Place the entire gel jar inside the designated space in the diffuser.
Close the diffuser and position it in your chosen room or enclosed area.
Select the appropriate operating setting and allow the fan to help circulate the gel's active ingredients throughout the space.

The Sleek Air Diffuser can be paired with compatible SAN-AIR gels including Mould Gone Reactive Gel and V3R Air Purifier Reactive Gel.

For greater control over how and when your gel is dispersed, the Fan Fresh Wall Mounted Diffuser / Dispenser – Professional Edition offers programmable fan operation with multiple operating modes.
The unit can be securely wall-mounted and features openings on all four sides to support efficient airflow. It also comes with a security key included in the box, which is used to unlock and open the diffuser from the top when you need to access or replace the gel inside.

For added convenience, the key can be attached to the side of the diffuser when not in use, giving it a dedicated storage spot so it's less likely to be misplaced.
The Fan Fresh can be powered by either 1 × D-size alkaline battery (LR20) or a DC 3V/1A power supply, both sold separately at Aussie Pharma Direct.
Choose when you want it to operate
The sensor setting allows you to choose between:
24H – operates regardless of light conditions.
Night – operates in the dark.
Day – operates when there is light.
Choose your fan mode
The Fan Fresh also provides several fan settings:
|
Setting |
How It Operates |
Use |
|
OFF |
Turns the unit off and resets the program |
Power off/reset |
|
Mode 1 |
Fan runs continuously |
Recommended for liquid fragrance refills |
|
Mode 2 |
Runs for 10 seconds, then stops for 30 seconds repeatedly |
Recommended for liquid fragrance refills |
|
Mode 3 |
Automatically adjusts its fan cycle over a 30-day program |
Recommended for solid products such as SAN-AIR gels |
For SAN-AIR gel products, Mode 3 is the relevant setting. Instead of running at the same interval throughout the life of the gel, the diffuser automatically changes its operating cycle over time:
|
Period |
Fan Cycle |
|
Week 1 |
1 minute ON / 3 minutes OFF |
|
Week 2 |
1 minute ON / 2 minutes OFF |
|
Week 3 |
1 minute ON / 1 minute OFF |
|
Days 22–30 |
Runs continuously |
After 30 days, the red LED will blink as a reminder to replace the refill. Once you've replaced it, switch the dispenser to OFF to reset the program, then select your settings again to begin a new cycle.

Best for: Those wanting a wall-mounted option with more control over operating times and fan intervals, particularly for ongoing use in larger or commercial spaces.
Where you position your SAN-AIR gel and Fan Diffuser can influence how effectively the released active ingredients are dispersed throughout the surrounding space. The aim is to place the unit somewhere that allows good airflow without unnecessarily obstructing the diffuser.
When deciding where to position either diffuser:
Choose an open location where air can circulate freely around the unit.
Avoid covering or blocking the diffuser's air openings or vents.
Keep it away from areas where it could easily be knocked over, disturbed or obstructed by furniture and other objects.
If wall mounting, choose a position that allows the fan to disperse the gel throughout the intended space rather than directly into an obstruction.
Follow the individual diffuser and SAN-AIR gel instructions for any additional placement requirements.
You don't necessarily need to place the diffuser directly beside the mould-affected surface. The purpose of the Fan Diffuser is to help distribute the gel's released active ingredients throughout the surrounding environment, rather than directly treating an existing patch of mould.
For a straightforward setup at home, the Sleek Air Diffuser offers a simple way to pair your SAN-AIR gel with fan-assisted dispersion, with the flexibility to use it freestanding or mounted to a wall.
The Fan Fresh Professional Edition may be more suitable when you want greater control over when and how frequently the fan operates, including programmable day/night operation and a dedicated Mode 3 program suited to solid gel products.
Whichever you choose, the idea is the same: the SAN-AIR gel provides the active formulation, while the fan helps circulate and distribute what the gel releases throughout the intended space.
You don't necessarily need a separate fan diffuser when using SAN-AIR gels in an air conditioner or HVAC system. SAN-AIR offers dedicated V3R Air Conditioning and Air Handler Reactive Gel Diffusers, which are designed to take advantage of the airflow already moving through the system to distribute the gel's active ingredients.
These gels provide ongoing mould and bacteria control within air-conditioning environments, with options available for everything from residential air conditioners to larger ducted and commercial HVAC systems.

The SAN-AIR V3R Air Conditioning Reactive Gel is the 100g option, designed for use with air-conditioning systems and suitable for residential and commercial indoor environments.
Using it is simple:
Remove the cap, peel off the seal and replace the cap.
Place the tub in the return air well of the air-conditioning unit.
As air moves through the system, it helps disperse the gel vapour throughout the intended environment.
The 100g Air Conditioning Gel is suitable for areas up to 150m² and can last for up to 10 weeks when the recommended size is used for the area.
If you're not placing the gel inside an air-conditioning unit, it can also be positioned indoors near a fan to help accelerate the dispersion of the gel vapour.

For ducted air-conditioning systems and larger HVAC applications, SAN-AIR offers the V3R Air Handler Reactive Gel in several sizes. These are suitable for both residential and commercial systems, as well as larger enclosed environments.
Rather than using a standalone Fan Diffuser, the Air Handler Gel is positioned directly within the system so that airflow passes through the gel box and helps distribute the active ingredients.
To use:
Remove the bag of gel from the blue box.
Cut along the top edge of the bag.
Empty the contents into the blue box and slide the lid into place.
Position the box in the return air vent in front of the filter or coils, allowing air to flow through it.
Replace the gel once it has completely evaporated.

So, while products such as Mould Gone Gel and V3R Air Purifier Gel can benefit from a separate fan diffuser in a room, SAN-AIR's Air Conditioning and Air Handler Gels are specifically designed to work with the airflow generated by the air-conditioning or HVAC system itself. This makes them the more appropriate option when ongoing mould and microbial management is needed within these systems.
SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels are best viewed as one part of a broader mould management routine, rather than a replacement for treating existing mould or addressing the conditions that allowed it to develop.
A more complete approach can be thought of in three stages:
If visible mould is already present, start by treating the affected area with an appropriate product such as SAN-AIR Surface Mould Remover or another SAN-AIR solution suited to the application.
For larger or harder-to-reach treatment areas, compatible liquid solutions can also be applied using the SAN-AIR Portable Nano-Atomizer, where appropriate.

Mould thrives where moisture is available, so it's also important to look at why the mould developed in the first place.
Depending on the space, this may mean addressing water leaks, reducing excess humidity and condensation, improving ventilation or increasing airflow. Without addressing an ongoing moisture problem, mould may return even after the affected surface has been treated.
Once the initial mould has been treated and moisture issues are being managed, SAN-AIR Diffuser Gels can provide ongoing support by gradually releasing their active ingredients into the surrounding environment to help inhibit mould and microbial growth.
